How to play Mancala Mango
Mancala Mango is the ancient sowing game played with the classic Kalah rules. On your turn you scoop all the seeds from one of your pits and "sow" them one at a time, counterclockwise, into the following pits — including your own store (the larger pit on your right). Two special rules drive the game: if your last seed lands in your own store, you take another turn; and if it lands in an empty pit on your side, you capture that seed plus all the seeds in the pit directly opposite. The most seeds in your store at the end wins.
Tips & strategy
- Hunt for extra turns — any move whose last seed lands in your store lets you go again. Chaining these is the single strongest tactic.
- Set up captures by landing your final seed in an empty pit on your side while the pit opposite is full.
- Watch your opponent's near-store pits; deny them the easy "land in store, go again" moves when you can.
- Late in the game, keep seeds on your side so you can be the one to sweep the board when it empties.
Frequently asked questions
Which direction do seeds move?
Counterclockwise, one seed per pit, including your own store but skipping your opponent's store.
How does capturing work?
If your last sown seed lands in an empty pit on your own side, you capture it along with every seed in the pit directly across from it — a great way to swing the count.
Is mancala a game of luck?
No — there is no randomness at all. Every position is fully visible, so strong players plan several sows ahead.
