How to play Battleship Bayou

Battleship Bayou is classic battleship on an 8×8 grid. First you hide your fleet — a barge, crocs, a canoe, and a turtle — by placing them on your own board. Then players take turns firing at coordinates on the opponent's hidden waters. A miss ends your turn; a hit lets you fire again, so streaks build momentum. Sink every enemy vessel before yours go down to win. Play a friend by link, an opponent, or the bot.

Tips & strategy

  • Open by firing in a checkerboard pattern — since the smallest ship covers two squares, hitting every other cell guarantees you eventually strike every ship.
  • Once you score a hit, fire at the four cells around it to find the ship's direction, then finish along that line.
  • When you hide your own fleet, avoid clustering ships together — a found ship gives away its neighbors.
  • Use edges and corners for placement sometimes; opponents often hunt the center first.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I shoot again after a hit?

A hit earns a bonus shot, so finding and finishing a ship quickly can let you fire several times in one turn — a big momentum swing.

Can my opponent see where my ships are?

Never. Each player's fleet stays hidden; you only learn an opponent's layout by hitting it shot by shot.

How many ships are there?

Four vessels of varying length hidden on each 8×8 board — the first admiral to sink them all wins.
